During November 1997, Kina amicably parted ways with Brownstone to follow her own artistic vision. A former manager introduced her to singer/songwriter/producer London Jones (House Party 2 soundtrack and on his own MCA LP, For You). The duo clicked creatively and began working on her solo debut. After catching her performance at the Mint Club in L.A., manager Benny Medina came on board as her manager. Her debut CD, Kina, was issued on July 18, 2000. The sultry singer co-executive produced her album with industry vet Lenny Waronker.
